Pet of the Month

McGee is a black lab/BC mix although he appears to be more black lab than anything. He is only about 3-4 months old. He was turned in by a woman whose brother planned to dump him in a shelter in KY. This little guy is sweet and deserves a home where he can be loved and appreciated so our foster/rescue program brought into our program. He will need someone that is willing to train him proper manners, work with him on basic commands, house-breaking skills and how to be a good member of the family. He is going to be a larger dog - somewhere around 60lbs we believe. He is very social and friendly with other dogs and good with people. He will need room to run and play so no apartments for this boy. He would do best with a fenced yard or large rural area - fields and hiking would be great. Older kids would be fine - no toddlers as he will probably knock them over. McGee's adoption fee is $200.00 for residents of CT, MA and RI only please. You must complete an adoption application, vet reference and home visit will be required... .

NEWS

Dixie's Plight - from Death Row in Ohio in Safety in CT
Our organization rescued little cattle dog Dixie from a horrible shelter in rural OH with the help of many folks in OH who care deeply about the animals that don't get much help there....... We were lucky enough to get this little 25lb, very pregnant baby doll out of there as everyone that came in contact with her couldn't believe how wonderful and loving she was and still is........she is truly "special". Dixie Tara ended up having an emergency "C-Section" on March 30th....she had nine babies in that tiny body of hers.....sadly we lost 4 of them and 5 have managed to live (3 girls, 2 boys).......but as you can imagine our vet bill is up over $1,000. for a Sunday morning emergency surgery.....and we are hardly done yet.....shots, spaying of mama down the road and all that food! So we are asking those of you that can afford a few spare dollars towards her care we would gladly appreciate it........we have posted a photo of her with her new babies......they are all thriving right now and happy & healthy..... Click on the donation link box below if you would like to donate a few dollars to her cause.......

Friends of Mansfield Animal Shelter Adoption Procedures:

Must fill out application form completely including a vet reference and phone number (if it takes us time to research YOUR vets number its slows down your application process). If you do not have a current vet you must provide (3) personal references of non-family members.

All potential adoptions DO require a home visit by a member of our respected rescue community. There are NO exceptions to this rule.

If you live on a busy street that is heavily traveled you will be required to have conventional fencing of at least 4 ft in height. This means chain link or stockade type fencing (no invisible fence, stone walls or post and rail)

Please NO children under the age of 8 years for our young puppies

You must be 21 years of age to legally adopt a dog from us since it requires signing a contract.

YOU MUST FILL OUT THE APPLCATION BEFORE VISITING THE ANIMAL OF INTEREST. This process can take up to two weeks so if you are looking for instant gratification don't bother filling out an application. We are all volunteers with "real" jobs, foster dogs, fundraising activities and family lives. If you are not serious about adopting and are only window shopping - don't waste a rescue groups' time and we won't waste yours. Also be courteous and if you have applications on several puppies in several places please let all parties know this information as it does make a difference in the decision making process.

Who We Are

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on helping the animals at the town municipal pound in Mansfield, CT. We raise money in efforts of helping the pets at the shelter have a better life while they are waiting for a new, loving home. Our goal in the future is to see the shelter improved by rebuilding or renovation.

Adopting A Friend

We also have a very small program of rescue dogs that are privately fostered by area homes. We have an occasionally pup or two that is rescued from a kill shelter in another area or state. We have an adoption process that includes application, interview, vet reference, home visits and then finally meeting the animal. Otherwise our main focus is to get the dogs from our local pound into new homes....you can see the available dogs at the shelter: Mansfield Animal Shelter
